President’s Message

I am very honoured by the confidence that the members placed upon me to guide and lead the Sri Lanka Association of Professional Counsellors (SLAPC) in its 1st year of journey. I am committed in ensuring that SLAPC preserves its core values such as its Professional ethics and diversity. The Members of the Executive Committee along with other working committees will continue to pay close attention to our social responsibility whilst ensuring best practices. I am also very much privileged to connect with our own colleges, sharing great ideas, meeting with each other and building a strong professional network through interactive sessions and through other micro networking events. Counselling is no doubt a great equalizer and forges lifelong balance, unite families and build unity among different social groups & communities. Counselling also mold the character and personality and provides leadership traits which endeavor throughout life’s uncertain events. It is indeed satisfying to note that the Institute of Psychological Studies (IPS) together with SLAPC have continued to stress the importance of counselling education and have offered the opportunities and facilities for those who need proper guidance. Our key focuses for the year 2024 should be:

1) Enrichment of skills and professional development of our members through SLAPC networking and workshops

2) Creating opportunities for SLAPC members to serve in diversified fields

3) Create a forum for our SLAPC members to become more involved and connected with SLAPC and its scheduled events

4) Tie up with possible public and private sector entities for creating awareness of counselling education and to be a party of such national course.

If you have any suggestions and recommendations for further improvements of SLAPC, kindly communicate with us. Finally, I am grateful to each and every member of the SLAPC for your dedication, enthusiasm and support throughout the period. I am look forward to a memorable year 2024!

Mr. Wilson Athukorala

President of the SLAPC
